Environmental Sustainability

Core to the identity of Seylynn Village is a strong sense of environmental sustainability. The Village is designed to reduce its impact on the global and local environment on several levels.

The first step is to reduce the demand. The tendency to just fit any building to any space dominates North American developments today. Buildings are an opportunity to express our culture, to set the conditions for social living, and to maximize nature's gifts so that we rely less on conventional mechanisms.

We often view ourselves at odds with nature - using machines to keep us warm, conditioning to keep us cool, artificial lights to keep it bright and so on. Yet this "elevated" form of living has a tendency to alienate ourselves from nature and resort to conventional mechanisms and is proven to have negative effects on the environment.

Seylynn Village is designed to work with the environment in order to reduce the demand we place on external mechanisms. The buildings are designed to integrate the air, water, temperature, light and other renewable resources already present and then use technology to compliment what nature alone cannot provide.

In addition to designing energy efficient buidings, we will also address other issues that will alleviate the demand we place on the environment. Seylynn Village will have a car share program for all residents to use. Bike paths and storage facilities will be provided, public trails will be improved, and transit is accessible for those interested in taking independent initiatives.

Hynes Developments is committed to the preservation of the environment and Seylynn Village will come to symbolize this through its approach to issues of climate change, energy conservation, water efficiency, and the preservation of natural habitat."
