Eco-Innovations
Hynes Developments has been committed to eco conscious building since its inception. We are pioneering ideas in energy efficiency and adaptive re-use to create a village that will be the first of its kind anywhere on the planet. Some technologies we are looking to implement for Seylynn Village include:
- Water and storm water management strategy to reduce water consumption and treat storm water as a social and ecosystem resource.
- Waste management strategy to reduce waste and encourage recycling through design of the building (units / garbage rooms), the construction process (construction waste recycling program), and others. The strategy includes elements such as construction waste, household, and commercial recycling (3 stream separation).
- Integrated systems strategy to increase efficiencies and environmental performance - resource sharing and energy system integration between businesses.
- Integrated conservation strategies such as efficient building envelopes, green roofs, building orientation and configuration, unit energy metering, user controls, manual ventilation, and day-lighting.
- Energy systems within structures such as heat pumps, geothermal heat, hydronic slab heating systems, thermal storage, and building mass.
- Water efficiency plan through use of efficient appliances
- Indoor air quality - low-emitting materials and innovative ventilation systems.
- Sustainable local materials will be used within structures wherever possible.
- Extensive green roofs / vegetation in order to benefit the ecology of the site and the surrounding region.
- Thermal Ground Exchange: Allows for the exchange of energy between the ground and the building
The proposed energy efficient mechanical systems will potentially reduce HVAC energy use by about 80%. This converts to a savings of about 15,000,000 eqkWh which equate to about $930,000 savings in the first year. According to the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, the reduced fuel consumption equated to a reduction of 6,962 Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide per year (2,036 from gas and 4,926 from electricity offset) or 1,275 passenger vehicles.
